Tanzania Salary Calculator

Work out your full Tanzanian payslip in one go. Enter your gross monthly salary, pick private or public sector and tell us whether you repay an HESLB loan — the calculator applies employee NSSF or PSSSF, PAYE income tax and the HESLB deduction, then shows your net take-home pay, the itemised deductions and the total cost to your employer.

How it works

Your employer first deducts your pension share — 10% NSSF (private) or 5% PSSSF (public) — before PAYE income tax is computed on the reduced amount, which is a real tax saving. HESLB loan repayments of 15% of gross apply only to beneficiaries. On top of your gross salary your employer also pays its own pension share — 10% NSSF or 15% PSSSF — which is why hiring costs more than your gross pay.

Net = Gross − Employee NSSF/PSSSF − PAYE(Gross − pension) − HESLB − Other · Employer cost = Gross + Employer NSSF/PSSSF

Worked examples

  • Private sector with an HESLB loan

A 1,500,000 TZS private-sector salary deducts NSSF 150,000, PAYE 233,000 and HESLB 225,000, leaving about 892,000 TZS take-home. The employer's monthly cost is 1,650,000 TZS.

  • Public sector with an HESLB loan

A 1,500,000 TZS public-sector (PSSSF) salary leaves about 944,500 TZS take-home and costs the employer 1,725,000 TZS per month.

Frequently asked questions

How is take-home pay different from the individual PAYE/NSSF/HESLB calculators?

The individual calculators isolate one deduction each. This calculator runs them together in the correct order — pension first, then PAYE on the reduced amount, then HESLB — so you get one accurate net figure.

Does my NSSF/PSSSF contribution reduce my tax?

Yes. Your employee pension share is deducted from your gross salary before PAYE is calculated, so it lowers your taxable income.

Why do private and public pay differ?

Private-sector staff contribute 10% employee NSSF (employer matches 10%); public servants contribute 5% PSSSF (employer pays 15%). Both total 20%, but the employee share — and therefore take-home — differs.

Do SDL and WCF affect my take-home pay?

No. The Skills Development Levy (3.5%) and Workers Compensation Fund (0.5%) are paid by the employer on top of salary and are excluded here — see the Employer Cost calculator for the full picture.

How is HESLB treated?

If you are an HESLB loan beneficiary, 15% of your gross monthly salary is deducted for repayment. Select 'No' if you are not repaying a loan.
