How it works

NSSF is a mandatory pension scheme for private-sector employees. Each month 10% of your gross salary is deducted as the employee share and your employer contributes a matching 10% (20% total). Your employee NSSF is deducted before PAYE, so it reduces your taxable income.

NSSF = 10% (employee) + 10% (employer) = 20% of gross · PAYE on (gross − employee NSSF) · Net = gross − employee NSSF − PAYE

Worked examples

  • Example

    A 1,000,000 TZS gross salary deducts 100,000 TZS employee NSSF and the employer adds 100,000 TZS, giving about 772,000 TZS take-home after PAYE.
