How it works

PSSSF is the mandatory pension fund for public-sector employees. 5% of your salary is deducted as the employee share and your employer contributes 15% (20% total). The retirement pension is estimated using 1/580 × months of service × your annual pensionable emoluments (APE).

Worked examples

  • Paycheck example

    A 1,000,000 TZS gross salary deducts 50,000 TZS employee PSSSF and the employer adds 150,000 TZS, giving about 824,500 TZS take-home after PAYE.

  • Retirement example

    180 months of service with an annual pensionable emolument of 12,000,000 TZS gives an estimated gratuity of about 3,724,000 TZS.
