How it works

HESLB (the Higher Education Students' Loans Board) deducts 15% of a loan beneficiary's monthly salary to repay their student loan. The employer deducts it and remits it to HESLB by the 15th of the following month. If you are not a loan beneficiary, no deduction applies.

HESLB deduction = 15% × gross monthly salary

    On a 1,000,000 TZS monthly salary, a loan beneficiary pays 15% × 1,000,000 = 150,000 TZS, leaving about 850,000 TZS before other deductions.

What is the HESLB deduction rate?

Does HESLB apply to everyone?
