How Tanzania Gaming Licence Fee is calculated

GBT publishes a schedule of 31 licence types. The application fee is one-off; the licence fee is usually annual, but virtual games in premises are priced per location, promotional lotteries per month, and promotional lotteries or prize competitions with a budget of TZS 5m or more as a percentage of that budget. Casinos and forty-machine sites have separate Dar es Salaam and other-region rates. Slot machine and route licences also carry a GBT levy of TZS 10,000 per machine per month, which the calculator computes from the machine count and months. The national lottery, virtual games and bingo carry a levy expressed as a share of GGR, and pool betting a share of the bet amount; those cannot be computed without GGR or bets, so the calculator shows the rate and leaves it out of the total.     The Dar es Salaam casino licence has a 1,000,000 TZS application fee and a 110,000,000 TZS annual licence fee. The first-year total is 111,000,000 TZS; renewal is 110,000,000 TZS.

  • A 40-machine slot shop for 12 months

    The slot shop licence has a 100,000 TZS application fee and a 500,000 TZS annual licence fee. The first-year total is 5,400,000 TZS; renewal is 5,300,000 TZS. The GBT levy is 4,800,000 TZS: TZS 10,000 per machine per month × 40 machines × 12 months.

  • The units field means locations, machines or lotteries depending on the licence; the result note says which.
  • The GBT levy is included only where it can be computed without GGR; GGR-based levies are shown but not added to the total.

  • Does not include TRA's gaming tax on GGR or winnings; those are separate calculators.
  • Does not include professional, legal or valuation costs, or the cost of meeting premises and equipment standards.
  • Does not cover Zanzibar, which has a separate gaming regime.
  • Does not compute the 2% or 5% GGR levies or the 10% pool-betting levy; those need GGR or bet amounts.

Tanzania Gaming Licence Fee FAQs

How much does a gaming licence cost in Tanzania?

It depends on the licence. A sports betting shop is 500,000 TZS to apply and 1,000,000 TZS a year; a Dar es Salaam casino is 1,000,000 TZS to apply and 110,000,000 TZS a year. The calculator covers the main commercial and employee licences.

Is the application fee paid every year?

No. The application fee is one-off; the licence fee is the recurring charge. The calculator shows the first-year total including both, and the renewal excluding the application fee.

Why is a Dar es Salaam casino licence more expensive?

GBT sets a higher annual fee for a casino in Dar es Salaam — 110,000,000 TZS against 60,000,000 TZS in other regions. The application fee is the same 1,000,000 TZS.

How long is a gaming licence valid?

Commercial licences are annual and renewable. The National Lottery licence runs for eight years, and a key gaming employee licence for two years.

What is the GBT levy on slot machines?

TZS 10,000 per machine per month, on top of the licence fee and TRA's TZS 100,000 per machine per month gaming tax.
